ABOUT

Ciao, I am Loren

I was born to a Chinese dad and Italian mom. My parents were immigrants who were passionately supportive of my dreams and creative self-expression. My dad bought me my first camera. I was always super creative as a kid. In college, I thought I’d go into architecture and wasn’t originally planning on photography as my career. But I was drawn to the technical challenges of sports photography and spent several years shooting on the sidelines, taking in the drama of the rapidly unfolding plays. I ultimately won College Photographer of the Year and it helped solidify a growing feeling that I was destined to use the camera as my tool for self-expression AND for making my living.

I spent six years in NYC as an editorial fashion photographer, while serving as a photojournalist for agencies including Associated Press, Reuters News Service, and Getty Images. I returned to my PNW roots and officially established Alante Photography in 2006, choosing to focus on fashion-inspired wedding photography and emphasizing client comfort above all else in creating images full of life, emotion, and fun.

"Their photos speak for themselves... Loren is extremely talented at what he does. Loren shot at our wedding and the images are phenomenal. Our engagement photos were insanely gorgeous.. My husband and I received so many compliments and people kept asking who my photographer was. Loren made us feel so comfortable and natural in front of the camera- he was very reassuring that the images were beautiful and that we were doing a great job. I feel it's important to have that kind of encouragement, especially if you're a little camera shy. Overall, a fantastic experience with Alante and I would highly recommend them to any couple getting married. Thank you, Loren!' --- Lauren R

I have more than 20 years of experience in wedding photography specifically, and over 800 weddings under my belt. Every single one of those events has been memorable to me, in serving to highlight my love of people and my curiosity about their unique lives and stories.

I critically depend on my ability to communicate thoughtfully and clearly with (and for) my clients to produce beautiful and articulate photographs. My story-telling ability, creative awareness, and constant pursuit of innovation allow me to capture scenes with accuracy and personal style.

My photographs have been published in The New York Times, Time Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, and People magazine, among others. My images were included in a 2004 exhibit at the National Museum of the American Indian (Smithsonian) in Washington, D.C.  I’ve also received several awards from the National Professional Photographers Association for my photojournalism.

Alante Photography has been a top-three finalist nine years in a row (2012-2020) for “Best Photographer” in Seattle Bride magazine’s “Best Of” annual awards, and has won the accolade multiple times (2015, 2017, & 2018).
I absolutely love photographing high-end events and weddings, with an eye for glamour and authentic emotion.

Loren has background studies in fashion photography, spending six years in New York City shooting editorial fashion along side photo-journalism for agencies like Associated Press, Reuters News Service, and Getty Images. Loren's photographs have been published in major news magazines and news agencies including The New York Times, Time Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, and People magazine. Loren has won numerous awards from the National Professional Photographers Association and in 2004 was invited to have his photographs be part of the National Native American Museum, Smithsonian in Washington D.C. Loren loves photographing high end events and weddings, with an eye for amazing editorial glamour.  He makes you look better than you ever thought.

A word about styled shoots, models, Photoshop, retouching, and enhancement. We believe that a photo should be constructed within the camera first.  The genuine moment is paramount to Loren.  Photoshop is used to remove exit signs, fire escapes, and uncontrollable distractions but the core image is captured in the most beautiful way possible through posing, lighting, and technical skill.  Additionally, all images found on the Alante portfolio are real clients.  No styled shoots with endless time to create and no models with posing prowess - real images and real moments captured at real events.

I look forward to meeting and speaking with you to create and capture your event or session with amazing style and artistic sense.
